NGUYEN THU

Nguyen Thu was born in 1930 and is recognized as the first generation of painters to develop the art of silk painting in Vietnam. He is the first Associate Professor in Vietnam to teach silk painting abroad. Precisely at the National University of Fine Arts in Paris.

The characters in Nguyen Thu’s paintings are often familiar and straightforward. Especially about the people and the mountainous landscape in the North of Vietnam. Experts rate his silk paintings as poetic. With soft colours, simple and rhythmic composition, Nguyen Thu has a unique style.

In 1976, two of his silk paintings were the first works from Vietnam to be displayed and awarded at an international exhibition (in Sofia, Bulgaria).
